Session Description
New information and communication technologies are providing children with unprecedented access to the world they are learning about. Classroom walls are becoming invisible through the Internet and the information it causes to flow. What are the potentials of using podcasting to give voice to that world and to give voice to our students? What are the barriers, and what are the key entryways into leveraging global voice in our neighborhood schools. Join us in discussing the potentials and avenues of podcasting in the classroom.

Once you've mastered the basics you'll want to spread your wings and try more advanced podcasting configurations. This session will address such topics as getting better audio quality with mixers, setting up multiple microphones, and adding special effects to your podcasts. We will also cover transitioning from the record and edit method of podcasting to a totally live recording session that requires no editing.

Session Description
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 established the basis for the digital music legal wars that played out over the last several years involving companies like MP3.com, Napster, and Grokster. So how does this impact podcasting? It establishes a strong framework to allow copyright holders to impose fines on you ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 per infringement. So let's get together and talk about why an ASCAP license isn't good enough and what in the heck is a DPD and how in the heck can we create a framework outside of traditional media to let consumers hear and see music and other works of art.

Session Description
According to some we "warm the bench," "were dragged in by male partners" and are a "minority." Wired News: Women Warm the Podcasting Bench The last one may be true, but Podcaster Con aims to be the first mass gathering of female podcasters, and it's looking promising. All women, whether you produce, host, edit, or couple-cast are welcome to our discussion on the hurdles we've faced and how to get past them. Are we automatically assumed to be a sex podcast if we are female? Is a female podcaster guild worth working toward and if so, what can we gain from it? Where do we go in the new year? Importantly, how do we recruit more women to podcast? (men are welcome to the discussion, of course)
